After studying Jazz Performance at Blackhawk in western Illinois, Timothy Ryssemus quickly made his way to Chicago before finally arriving in Nashville. With a background in hip-hop, jazz & rock n roll, Timothy began focusing on producing and collaborating with Nashville’s local pop artists.
Timothy released his solo project RICCA VITA which was commented on being “an eccentric and alluring package, the likes of which we don’t see often enough of in these parts.” (nashville scene), and containing “attention to detail and fluid concept of genre allow him the context to bring his listeners something they’ve truly never heard before." Soon after, Timothy began collaborating with John Hanna and Altru Creative began to organically grow.
It was back in high school where John first began playing with the concepts that would eventually evolve into Altru. At the age of 16, John launched the production house Landmines Entertainment. It was there that hip/hop began to play an intregal part of his production. John remained tremendously active over the next ten years, pursuing his love of electronic music, and found himself extensively DJing around the southeast as well running Ganjaology Blog and Record Label.
After receiving his Bachelors Degree for Recording Arts from Full Sail University in 2012 he went to work with prominent Cleveland Hip/Hop collective NVRCH. There he recorded and produced for Tezo, Lorine Chia, Bankie Travolta, Ben West, and even mastered tracks for Kid Cudi and Mad Decent's artist Spurt. All of this came to a culmination as John joined forces with pop and hop-hop producers in Nashville to launch Altru Creative.
Music has been a focal point of Nigel's life since he was a youth. Growing up singing in the Ohio Boys Choir, playing the flute as an adolescent, and singing in a traveling show choir as a teen gave Nigel the comprehension and inspiration necessary to start producing on his own at the age of 20.
After 8 years of living and working on music out West, Nigel relocated to Nashville, TN, to pursue a career in art and music with the like-minded group of visionaries at Altru Creative in late 2016. Today, Nigel produces hip-hop and synthesizer based music, along with having a hand in the visual development of many projects taking place at Altru Creative.
In the raucous heat of Bonnaroo 2015, many energetic encounters were had and connections made. One of which was between John Hanna and myself, who had also recently transplanted to Nashville, TN.
Both John and myself had excitingly aligned visions after being immersed in the gamut of the music industry and many of its out-dated practices and perspectives. We had both spent our adult lives producing pop & electronic, yet had backgrounds in punk and hip-hop - a part of ourselves which stayed very much alive in our vigor and willingness to rebel against the status quo.
Altru was formed around the desire to create a place that would allow others to become. With creative self-discovery, transparency, and an artist first mentality, we officially jumped into creating the space and the vibe at the beginning of 2017. All the while knowing our ambitions would require more teammates & collaborators to work alongside with. Be we took a plunge of faith, feeling confident that those aligned with the same goals would find their way to us.
The Altru team formed over the next few months, hailing all the way from Denver to Chicago, and even includes a few native Nashvillians. The addition of new team members allowed Altru to grow into something entirely new, as each member brought their own progressive perspectives and individual goals. Everyone at Altru strives to develop self-discovery, the open-mindedness to allow ourselves to become, and the grit and drive to unapologetically express that. We foster these ideals, first and foremost within ourselves, in order to gravitate every artist we work with towards distinction. Altru is a catalyst for cultural movement.
